Accused identified in Highway 401 double fatal

PRESCOTT/JOHNSTOWN – Grenville County O.P.P. have released the name of a truck driver involved in a deadly collision on Highway 401 near Prescott Monday night.

Jamil Ahmad Qureshi, 60, of Brossard, Que. is facing two counts of dangerous driving causing death and four counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm.

Qureshi is being held in custody for a bail hearing in a Brockville court on Friday (Dec. 1, 2017.)

Two people were killed after a collision between two transport trailers and three vehicles in the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 between Prescott and Johnstown late Monday night.

The names of the dead are being withheld by O.P.P. until family is notified.

Three other people were transported to area hospitals – another one was flown by air ambulance to hospital with serious life threatening injuries.

As of 4:20 p.m. Tuesday, the eastbound lanes of the highway had reopened to traffic.
