KINGSTON – A strike by faculty at Ontario’s community colleges, including St. Lawrence College, will proceed Monday.

In a news release late Sunday night, the Ontario Public Service Employees Union confirmed the faculty would hit the picket line.

OPSEU and the College Employer Council failed to produce a tentative collective agreement.

Bargaining team chairman JP Hornick said the council was presented with a “streamlined offer that represented what faculty consider to be the bare minimum we need to ensure quality education for students and treat contract faculty fairly.”

OPSEU President Warren “Smokey” Thomas said employees would be backed by the union’s $72 million strike fund.

The three campuses of St. Lawrence College in Kingston, Brockville and Cornwall had put contingency plans in place, which will no doubt proceed as planned on Monday.

There’s been no statement released from the College Employer Council.
