SMITHS FALLS – A former Smiths Falls resident has been charged with attempted murder and ordered for a psychiatric assessment after a hospital clerk was stabbed in the head with a pair of scissors.
Town police say the attack happened today (Aug. 24) while an intake clerk was taking care of a patient at the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital.
The man grabbed a pair of scissors and proceeded to stab the clerk in the head.
Officers, who were already at the hospital, were able to intervene.
The clerk has superficial wounds of her head and forearms. police said.
A 24-year-old Ottawa man, formerly of Smiths Falls, has been charged with attempted murder, possession of a dangerous weapon and resisting arrest.
Ian Brennan was in bail court this afternoon.
