BROCKVILLE – Local MP Gord Brown is holding a public meeting this afternoon (Tuesday) to allow residents to voice their feelings about the settlement between the federal government and Omar Khadr.

The drop-in style meeting is happening at 5 p.m. at the large community room at the 1000 Islands Mall and will last for two hours.

“My office has been receiving a number of calls and emails about the government’s payment of over $10 million to Khadr and many people have reached out to me directly,” Brown said in a news release.

National polling by Angus Reid suggests a 71 per cent of Canadians feel the government should have fought a legal case rather than paying a settlement.

The payout is for alleged injustices while Khadr was held at Guantanamo Bay prison.
