PRESCOTT – There’s an increasing problem with people pocket-dialing 911 in Grenville County.
Provincial police say they have responded to 255 unnecessary calls between the beginning of the year and July 10 – almost 10 a week.
The calls are either pocket dials, people calling in error or young people using the phone.
Police say, every time someone calls 911, two officers have to respond to make sure the caller is okay, which ties up resources for other emergencies.
It also takes operators away from other calls for real emergencies, Grenville County O.P.P. said.
