How much rain has Leeds-Grenville received?

BROCKVILLE – Preliminary readings collected by Environment Canada show Brockville has received nearly half of its monthly rainfall in one day.

Meteorologist Peter Kimbell tells Brockville Newswatch, an unofficial recording from a city weather observer has measured 35 millimeters of rain.

The normal monthly precipitation for April is around 81 millimeters.

Around the region, there was 42 millimeters in Kemptville, 41 in Kingston and 39.6 millimeters in Cornwall.

While that rain is on the ground, the two conservation authorities overseeing Leeds-Grenville have flood watches in effect as all that water enters the water table.

The Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority says Sucker Brook, Black Creek, Wiltse Creek, Charleston Lake and Gananoque Lake are all high. As well, Charleston and Gananoque lakes have risen at least five inches over the last 36 hours.

Elizabethtown-Kitley Township has also reported flooding on Woods Road and Atkins Lake Road.

A rainfall warning was cancelled as of Friday morning.
