BROCKVILLE – The co-founder and long time CEO of Hansler Smith Limited will be receiving a posthumous honour for his contribution to the business climate in Brockville.

Al Smith will be the sixth recipient of the Lifetime Business Achievement Award, the chamber of commerce announced Monday.

He is also the first person to receive the award after his death in October 2014 at the age of 81.

Smith, along with a business partner, started the company in 1953 as a machine and supply company and has grown it into a multi-branch operation with seven locations in Ontario and more than 100 employees.

Hansler Smith Limited supplies industrial and commercial workplace safety equipment such as spill absorbents, construction harnesses, gloves, protective eye wear and hardhats.

Smith also gave a lot of personal time to local organizations and charities, the chamber said.

Smith will join past award recipients Dave Sheridan, Don Green, Sheri Simzer, John & Steve Mazurek and Dave Jones.

The award will be given out during the chamber AGM on Thursday, Mar. 30, 2017.
