BROCKVILLE – A sign defaced at a local school is being treated as a hate crime, city police said Friday.

Brockville police wouldn’t identify the school in the central-east section of city, nor who the specific race of people that were targeted in the message.

Officers were called to the school around 9:30 a.m. Thursday to take pictures of the damage to the school sign and look for any witnesses.

Police are calling the damage “minimal” and say the “small sign can be replaced if the message can’t be removed.”
