Don’t leave keys in vehicles: Brockville police

BROCKVILLE – With on-street winter parking restrictions, residents may be looking for an easy way to jockey their vehicles.

But police are telling you not to leave your keys in your vehicle, after a car was stolen on Wednesday morning that was later involved in a crash.

Staff Sgt. Todd Bertrend said the keys had been left in a vehicle in a north-end driveway so that the owner could avoid parking on the street.

But someone took the car on a joyride and ran into a street lamp early Wednesday morning (Dec. 14).

The damaged Chevy Impala was later found abandoned behind a school.

“Although it may present more work to move vehicles around, removing opportunity for criminals is very important,” Bertrend said.
