
SMITHS FALLS â A person has been struck and killed by a Via passenger train in Smiths Falls.
Smiths Falls Police say it happened on Lorne Street Wednesday (Nov. 23) and that the pedestrian was on the tracks when they were hit.
They were pronounced dead at the scene.
The identity of the victim is not being released until relatives are notified.
No other details were released and police have not said whether foul play is suspected.
Via Rail tweeted around 6:45 p.m. Wednesday that the train involved in the collision would be delayed at least two hours but no other trains were expected to be delayed.

Train 646 was heading from Toronto to Ottawa at the time.
