Gananoque fire chief released

GANANOQUE – The Town of Gananoque announced Monday that its fire chief has been “released from his employment” with the municipality.

The move is effective Nov. 8, 2016.

It comes after Gerald Bennett was placed on a paid leave of absence on Sept. 19, 2016 after the Township of Leeds and The Thousand Islands decided to terminate the shared service agreement with the town.

The move to release the fire chief comes after a forensic audit of the two fire departments and the Leeds County O.P.P. is now involved, the town said.

Acting Fire Chief Gary Bullock is continuing in an acting role for the Gananoque Fire Department.
