SOUTH DUNDAS – Cement barriers and signage, indicating the closure of a bridge with structural problems, have been destroyed, the township announced Friday.
South Dundas had abruptly closed the Devries Road bridge, south of County Road 5, and a bridge on South Branch Road, south of Gilmour Road, last week (Sept. 23).
Sometime Thursday night, the cement barriers and closure signage at the Devries Road bridge “were removed and destroyed,” the township said in a statement.
“As such, this act of vandalism and public endangerment has been handed over to the Ontario Provincial Police,” said Chris Bazinet, director of public works.
It’s not known how long the bridges will be closed though the township has indicated that it will be “indefinitely”.
