Teaching girls good money habits

BROCKVILLE – Young girls across Leeds-Grenville will have access to courses this fall to teach them good money habits.

Girls Incorporated of Upper Canada (Girls Inc.) announced Thursday it had received $10,000 from TD Canada Trust to put on its “Equal Earners, Savvy Spenders” program in classrooms across the district.

The 10, one-hour weekly courses are touted as promoting “economic justice” by teaching girls aged 10-14 broad financial concepts, such as “wants” versus “needs” and banking skills.

The group will also be offering a course for the younger ones in grades 1-4 called “Dollars, Sense and Me.”
