One killed in Highway 401 crash near Gananoque

GANANOQUE – Provincial police confirm one person has been killed in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 401 near Gananoque early this morning.

The O.P.P. closed the section of the highway near Reynolds Road this morning. The eastbound lanes have since reopened. The westbound lanes remain closed.

It’s not known when the highway will fully reopen.

The crash happened around 5:30 a.m. and Leeds County O.P.P. say their preliminary investigation shows a westbound transport truck struck a parked safety truck.

Several fire departments were on the scene, three kilometers west of Reynolds Road, after the truck caught fire upon impact.

Police have not identified the person killed or whether they were the driver of the tractor trailer.

Detours are in place.
