House rental fraud on the rise: Brockville police

(Newswatch Group/File)

BROCKVILLE – City police say they are seeing more instances of people being taken in relation to online house rentals.

This, after police received two complaints Wednesday afternoon concerning the rental of a home on Front Avenue.

The first victim had sent off money for the rental while the second was still doing some investigating when the police were called.

“This is becoming a more popular scam,” said Staff Sgt. Todd Bertrend.

Police are reminding the public to be careful when answering online ad rentals and not to forward money until you know everything is on the up-and-up.
