Guns seized at Prescott border

JOHNSTOWN – Canadian border agents seized three handguns in two separate cases at the Johnstown border crossing.

The Canada Border Services Agency released details today (Tuesday) about the two cases that happened on the same day at the Prescott port of entry – Sunday, July 17, 2016.

Border officers found a loaded .25-caliber pistol in the driver’s door of a vehicle as well as a loaded 9-millimeter gun in a bag in the trunk.

Later in the day, officers were going through an RV where they found a loaded .40-caliber pistol with two magazines in a bedside table.

In both cases, the American travellers were arrested and charged with making false statements and smuggling.

Both were released on bail with a promise to appear in a Brockville, Ont. court Aug. 19, 2016.

Their names were not released.
