ATHENS – A driver from Athens is facing a careless driving charge after an SUV crashed into a house and three motorcycles.
It happened just before noon Monday at the corner Main Street and Mill Street (County Road 5) when a Jeep Cherokee suddenly accelerated and shot across Mill Street, striking the side of a brick house, police said.
The force of the crash buckled the brick wall and send contents of the living room inside the home flying, where a man and three young children were sitting.
One child was taken to hospital to be checked over as a precaution.
Three motorcycles and their riders were also struck in the process – two of the three riders, a 60-year-old and a 20-year-old both from Elizabethtown-Kitley Township, were treated at hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the Jeep – a 68-year-old Athens man – has been charged with careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act.
