Provincial police: don’t call us about CRA scam

ORILLIA – The Ontario Provincial Police is saying thanks but no thanks to calls about the ongoing Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) scam.

The force says their communications centers are being “inundated with calls” – 100 or more a day – from people saying they’ve received a call from a scam artist.

The calls are taking away value time and resources from calls for service that may be more pressing, the O.P.P. explained.

The “rampant” CRA scam consists of either calls or emails, supposedly from the CRA, ordering people to pay up on their delinquent taxes or they’ll be arrested and thrown in jail.

If you still want to report it, call the Canadian Anti-Fraud Center at 1-888-495-8501 or you can report it online.
