Upper Canada Village catering to autistic visitors

MORRISBURG – An award-winning tourist venue is looking to cater to those dealing with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

Upper Canada Village has launched so-called “ASD Sensory Friendly Sunday” mornings through July and August.

The specially catered menu of activities will include quiet spaces, hands-on opportunities and “gentle social interactions” with village staff.

Sundays were chosen because it’s usually a quiet time for the village.

Upper Canada Village will also have special maps on site for guardians to know about areas and buildings that have unusual noises or odours and the location of the three quiet areas.
