Repeat as Brockville Sports Person of the Year

BROCKVILLE – A Maitland-area figure skater found herself in familiar territory Thursday night as Alaine Chartrand was named the city’s Sports Person of the Year.

The honour bestowed on her left Alaine, who was the Canadian senior women’s champion, speechless.

Chartrand’s award was among a handful given out at the Kinsmen Sports Awards Dinner at the Brockville Memorial Center on Thursday night.

The 2016 Sports Team of the Year is the Brockville Rowing Club Cox 4 Henley Champions.

For a lifetime commitment to coaching, Rick Miles was recognized with the Coaching Award for his work with TISS football.

The Volunteering Award went to Tracey Hayden for her work with Athens figure skating.

There were five inductees into the Brockville Sports Hall of Fame on Friday – former CFL punter Burke Dales, WNBA and Oklahoma basketball player Stacey Dales, Brockville Braves former coach Mac MacLean, long time goalie Geoff McMullen and coach-organizer of age-level sports John Morgan.
