BROCKVILLE – People posing as the taxman are using creative new ways to rip you off.
Brockville police say the con artists convinced one local resident this week to buy $3,900 in iTunes gift cards and call them back with the activation codes.
“Revenue Canada would never make this request of anyone,” police said.
Grenville County O.P.P. have been dealing with similar complaints where a victim lost $4,900 to a person claiming the victim owed back taxes.
Many of the CRA scam calls include threats of jail, fines and other actions.
If you’re not sure, police say don’t send any money or buy gift cards and to contact them or Revenue Canada right away.
