Police: killer drug on streets of Brockville

(Newswatch Group/File)

BROCKVILLE – City police are warning the public, a very potent and potentially deadly drug is making the rounds of the local drug scene.

Brockville police say they have “received several reports” of synthetic fentanyl – also known as W18 or faded 80s – being sold on the street.

The local health unit says it’s also shown up on the streets in Kingston and Ottawa.

Regional Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Paula Stewart, sent out an advisory to local health care providers and law enforcement about synthetic fentanyl.

Synthetic fentanyl is typically sold in vials and pill bottles at a discount – compared to regular fentanyl patches – and will usually be in powder form, mixed with cocaine.

The reason it’s so deadly is that it’s a 100 per cent pure form of the drug taking directly by ingesting, instead of being absorbed slowly through a transdermal patch.

Police are urging extreme caution and want people to report its sale to Det. Sgt. Tom Fournier at 613-342-0127 extension 4258.

Alternatively, you can call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-888-222-8477 (TIPS).
