MALLORYTOWN – A cyclist is dead after being hit by a car on County Road 2, east of here, over the weekend.

It happened just after 8 p.m. Saturday night when a Buick Rendezvous, driven by a 56-year-old woman from Front of Yonge, collided with the cyclist, east of the County Road 5 intersection.

The 27-year-old man on the bicycle was taken to hospital and later died of his injuries.

He’s been identified as Thomas John Smith of Brockville.

The driver of the SUV was not injured.

Both vehicles were travelling west on the county road right around sunset when the crash happened.

Leeds County O.P.P. Const. Sandra Barr told Brockville Newswatch she wasn’t aware of any notations in the police report of whether the bicycle had lights.

The cyclist wasn’t wearing a helmet, Barr said.

Leeds County O.P.P. are asking any witnesses to come forward by calling 1-888-310-1122 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
