BROCKVILLE – The parent company of the Goodwill store on Parkedale Avenue in Brockville is seeking bankruptcy protection.
CEO Keiko Nakamura said Monday in a statement the Goodwill Industries of Toronto, Eastern, Central and Northern Ontario has filed an assignment under Canada’s Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act.
It’s in order to preserve its assets for creditors, presumably its former employees.
The Brockville store closed Jan. 16 along with 15 other locations across Ontario due to cash flow problems.
The closures affected 430 workers in Ontario.
Nakamura is not ruling out a proposal to creditors that could stop the bankruptcy and allow some stores to reopen.
