PRESCOTT – A teenager is facing charges after leading O.P.P. on a high speed chase from Brockville to Prescott.
Leeds County O.P.P. received a number of calls from drivers, complaining about a white cargo van that had forced at least one vehicle off the road on the eastbound Highway 401.
When officers caught up with the van around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday (Jan. 25), just west of Brockville, and tried to stop it, the van sped away and officers were in pursuit.
The chase ended when the van crashed into another vehicle near Blue Church Road, west of Prescott.
But the drama didn’t end there, as the suspect ran across the median into the westbound lanes, where he tried to get into another vehicle and – of all things – a police cruiser.
He was arrested shortly after his attempts to take another vehicle.
Police say the cargo van had been stolen from a business in Kingston earlier in the day.
A 17-year-old from Kingston is facing charges of dangerous driving, failing to remain at the scene of an accident, flight from police, vehicle theft and resisting arrest.
The teen, whose name was not released because he’s a minor, was held for a bail hearing in Brockville today (Jan. 26).
