MALLORYTOWN – Three men led provincial police on a lengthy search near here after jumping out of a car on Highway 401 Thursday night.

Leeds County O.P.P. say an officer was trying to make a traffic stop just before 11 p.m. when the car he was stopping came right to a halt in the driving lanes and three guys took off.

The O.P.P. canine unit and Emergency Response Team had to be brought in to track them and officers caught one guy. Roughly six-and-a-half hours later, they got a tip about two men hitchhiking near Mallorytown.

The two were arrested and a small amount of drugs and a prohibited weapon was seized.

The men from Hamilton – ages 18, 19 and 20 – were charged with obstructing a police officer.

They will all appear in a Brockville court next month.

Police say an investigation is ongoing.
