Rideau Lakes man charged after Highway 401 Megabus crash

LANCASTER, Ont. – The man behind the wheel of a Megabus involved in a crash with a tractor-trailer on Highway 401 this summer, east of Cornwall, Ont., is facing a charge of careless driving.

Stormont-Dundas-Glengarry O.P.P. laid the Highway Traffic Act charge today (Dec. 14) following their investigation into the June 23 crash on the freeway, east of Lancaster.

Gary Graham, 64, of Lombardy will appear in a Cornwall court Jan. 26, 2016.

The Megabus – heading to Kingston from Montreal – slammed into the back of a tractor-trailer, about 30 kilometers east of Cornwall, Ont.

The bus ended up in a stand of trees.

There were 45 people on the bus – 19 of them with minor injuries and four were airlifted for more serious injuries.

A nearby township had to declare a state of emergency and use its recreation center as a triage area for the Red Cross and other emergency workers.
