LANSDOWNE – A bid to make Leeds and the Thousand Islands council for transparent appears to be backfiring less than a year after it was put in place.
The policy of making some of council members’ emails open for public consumption has turned into a workhorse for township staff, having to sort through tons of electronic correspondence.
Only emails among a majority of councillors that advance the business of the township are public.
At least one councillor is calling the policy a mistake and council has discussed a proposed alternative of a public forum or blog.
The open email policy still stay in place for now until the alternative open forum website or other alternative is developed, which could take several months.
