Fire Marshal probing house fire in Portland

RIDEAU LAKES/PORTLAND – The Ontario Fire Marshal is combing over the scene of a weekend house fire.

Leeds County O.P.P. and the Rideau Lakes Fire Department were called to a home on County Road 15 in Portland on Sunday night around 7 p.m.

The home was fully engulfed in flames by the time they arrived, said police.

There was no one in the home at the time of the fire and O.P.P. remain on the scene as investigators go through the rubble looking for a cause.

Police did charge one person – a 23-year-old man of no fixed address – with uttering threats, breach of probation and failing to comply with a probation order. However, police did not explain his involvement with the fire.

If you have any information on the fire you’re asked to call O.P.P. at 613-345-1790 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
