BROCKVILLE – City police are “pleased” with the results locally in a national campaign to make driving safer for motorists.

Operation Impact covered the Thanksgiving weekend and Brockville Police Service Staff Sgt. Todd Bertrend said they had no significant accidents during the long weekend.

One driver was given a 72-hour licence suspension, another was charged with distracted driving and eight speeders ended up with tickets.

There were 13 other fines laid for aggressive driving and 10 criminal charges.

In addition to regular enforcement, a RIDE spot check was set up in the city Friday and no impaired drivers were found during the check of “several hundred” drivers.
