BROCKVILLE – The circus is coming to town…and so are the animal welfare activists.

Members from across Eastern Ontario are expected to protest with the Ottawa Animal Defense League at 2:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. – 90 minutes before each showing of the Shrine Circus.

The circus is in town today (Wednesday) for two shows at the Memorial Center Arena at 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. before heading to Ottawa for the weekend.

The league alleges the circus uses extreme techniques, such as bullhooks and prods, to train animals and make them perform.

They point to several places such as Guatemala City and California, where circuses have either been banned or restrictions on tools used in training have been put in place.
