CORNWALL – A Spencerville man is facing drug-related charges after a spectacular crash here on Thursday.

Witnesses said a pickup truck suddenly accelerated and crashed through a display of scooters and e-bikes leaving the street littered with wheels, chrome and bits of plastic before the truck smashed into a hydro pole.

The 31-year-old driver, the only person in the truck, was pulled from the wreck by emergency responders.

Police allege they later found marijuana and Fentantyl – a prescription painkiller – in the victim’s possession.

He was charged with a promise to appear in a Cornwall court Sept. 3.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation.

Witnesses said the truck suddenly accelerated several hundred feet down the street before hitting the store display and utility pole.
