MORRISBURG – A golf tournament for the Upper Canada District School Board’s Champions for Kids Foundation has raised over $50,000.
The 8th annual tournament was held June 30 at the Upper Canada Golf Course in Morrisburg where more than 130 people enjoyed 18 holes of golf, plus lunch and dinner.
Co-chairs Kelty Grant and Rick Gales were thrilled with the amount raised.
“The support of the UCDSB community is unbelievable!” said co-chair Kelty Grant. “We are overwhelmed by the positive response from the sponsors, golfers and volunteers. It is amazing to be an integral part of a community that cares, and we are proud to have made a difference.”
Aside from the fund raising, the tournament’s winning foursome was newcomers Travis Brennan, Mitchell Grange, Pat Lindsay and Phil Nihmey with a score of 53.
Additional winners include Dustin Drury with the men’s longest drive, Patty Gollogly with women’s longest drive, John Thomas with men’s closest to the hole, Jen Fullarton with women’s closest to the hole and Nancy Simpson in the putting contest.
Champions for Kids is a confidential service formed in January 2008 by the Upper Canada District School Board to help disadvantaged children and their families to participate in sports, arts and other activities outside school hours.
