Crash involving O.P.P. cruiser on CR29

SMITHS FALLS – Provincial police are investigating a two vehicle crash involving one of their own.

Leeds County O.P.P. were called around 5:30 p.m. yesterday (April 10) to the collision on County Road 29 south of Otterdale Crescent, about five kilometers south of Smiths Falls.

The collision involved an O.P.P. marked cruiser and a grey Chevrolet sport utility vehicle, Const. Roop Sandhu said.

The officer, who has not been identified, has minor injuries while driver and passenger in the SUV were taken to hospital as a precaution for treatment of “minor injuries,” police said.

Police said charges “may be pending.”

The Ontario Special Investigations Unit (SIU), which probes cases where someone is injured or killed involving police, was not brought in because the collision doesn’t meet the benchmark for it to investigate.
