Casino player calls O.P.P. for ride home

GANANOQUE – Provincial police are reminding people to only call 911 for genuine emergencies where people or property are at immediate risk.

This, after Leeds County O.P.P. says a 21-year-old Quebec woman called them to say she lost all her money at the Shoreline Casino Thousand Islands and needed help getting home.

The call came in around 5 a.m. Saturday.

“In order to insure her well-being she was requested to stay put and await verification. The woman then called O.P.P. back saying that someone just gave her $20, so she was going back into the casino and no longer needed police assistance,” police said.

If you or someone you know requires help for a gambling addiction, call the Ontario at Access to Addiction, Mental Health and Problem Gambling Services at 1-866-531-2600.
