JOHNSTOWN – A North Grenville rail shipping company, which handles storage and switching of rail cars, has chosen Johnstown for a multi-phase expansion of its operations.
Members of Canadian Rail Equipment Works & Services Inc. (CREWS) of Oxford Station and local politicians drove in the last spike Friday (Feb. 2) at the 96 acre site at 3518 County Road 2.
This is the first phase of the project, which has been open since Jan. 22, and can hold 200 rail cars on the site.
Six people will have jobs at the Johnstown trans-loading location for the first phase of operations.
Future phases will hold another 350 rail cars and “double the investment in infrastructure,” the company said.
“Now that the railyard is open and active, I’m receiving so much positive feedback and there is a lot of interest,” said Clayton Jones, president and owner of CREWS.
Jones had been working with the county’s economic development department and the Community Futures Development Corporation since September 2015 to find a site for his business expansion.
