Border crosser facing child porn charges

JOHNSTOWN – A man from India, trying to cross the border at Johnstown into the United States, has been charged by Canadian authorities with possession of child pornography.

A 20-year-old man was denied entry into the U.S. on Tuesday (Jan. 23), where he was turned around and sent back to the Canada Border Services Agency.

That’s when CBSA authorities uncovered that the suspect had child pornography in his possession.

The O.P.P. Child Exploitation Unit and the Prescott detachment of the O.P.P. were called in to help with the investigation.

Gurbir Singh of India is charged with possession of child pornography and importing child pornography.

He was held for a bail hearing today (Jan. 24). in a Brockville court.

No other details have been released as the investigation is ongoing, the O.P.P. said.
