Update 10:45 a.m. Friday: Environment Canada has cancelled this weather advisory.

BROCKVILLE – Driving conditions along Highway 401 could rapidly deteriorate Friday as Environment Canada is calling for lake effect snow squalls.

The winter weather advisory, issued at 9:30 p.m. Thursday, covers Brockville, Prescott, Gananoque and Mallorytown.

Bands of lake effect snow on Lake Ontario are expected to shift north late Friday morning.

“Hazardous winter driving conditions are possible in bursts of heavy snow which can cause reduced visibility and quick accumulations,” the agency said.

Snowfall is expected to be 5-10 centimeters (2-4 inches) Friday.

The lake effect snow may continue through Friday night.
