Police watchdog probing Highway 15 rollover

LOMBARDY — Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is looking into a police chase early Sunday morning where a driver was injured following a rollover.

It happened just after midnight Sunday morning after Leeds County O.P.P. and Smiths Falls police officers were called to a dispute.

That’s when a man took off in a vehicle with officers in pursuit.

During the course of the chase, the suspect vehicle struck two police cruisers.

It later crashed and rolled on Highway 15 at Golf Club Road.

The driver – a 29-year-old man – was taken to hospital.

The SIU has assigned five investigators to the case as well as a collision reconstruction expert.

The SIU is an independent body that investigates cases where police have interacted with people who are injured, killed or there are allegations of sexual assault.
