MALLORYTOWN – An elderly woman has died after a collision between her car and a transport truck on Highway 401 near here late Friday night.

Leeds County O.P.P. say a westbound car left the road and crossed the median where it collided with a tractor-trailer just after 11 p.m.

The car driver – identified as 85-year-old Edna Winch of Richmond Hill, Ont. – died at the scene.

A section of Highway 401 was shut down for roughly eight hours overnight on Friday into Saturday morning between Mallorytown and Lansdowne after the fatal crash.

An autopsy has been scheduled, police said.
