IROQUOIS – South Dundas will sell off one of its public works buildings through a public auction in June.
Council agreed last week to sell the property at 26 Dundas Street in Iroquois, which is a stone’s throw from Ross Video and the Royal Canadian Legion.
The property would be appealing to the tech company as it has publicly stated it plans a 40,000 square foot expansion.
During the UCDSB school review process, CEO David Ross had warned the expansion may not happen if Seaway District High School was closed. Seaway was spared in the round of closures and now residents of Iroquois are waiting to see if Ross Video will follow through.
South Dundas CAO Shannon Geraghty told Newswatch they are looking at putting their garages in more strategic locations.
“The Iroquois garage was deemed as a storage type of building. We have a hoist in there but, because of how tall the building is, we can’t do a lot of our big snowplows,” Geraghty said.
The CAO said they are looking at possibly moving services to Matilda, but that’s still a decision for council to make.
“They’ve (Ross Video) expressed interest way back. We’ve also had the (Royal Canadian) Legion express interest on it. We thought the most fair process would be to do it through a public auction,” Geraghty said.
“I wouldn’t say that it’s not off the table at all for Ross Video for sure.”
An email to a media spokesperson for Ross Video requesting comment for this story was not returned.
The auction will take place on site on Friday, June 9, 2017 at 1 p.m.
The property is assessed at $221,000.
