Fire destroys Cardinal truck stop

CARDINAL – A large portion of the 730 Truck Stop on County Road 22, is now a hollow brunt out shell.

Fire ripped through the building around 11:45 p.m. Saturday night as the Edwardsburgh-Cardinal Fire Department and several other departments battled the blaze.

Grenville County O.P.P. say one woman has minor injuries. (This has been updated from an earlier report that there were no reported injuries).

Multiple social media reports have identified the victim as a manager, who is in hospital with serious burns.

The Grenville County O.P.P. Crime Unit, along with the Ontario Fire Marshal, are now in charge of the investigation.

Firefighters were still on the scene late Sunday morning putting out hot spots.

The 730 Truck Stop has several other businesses under its roof, including Subway and 730 Permit Services Inc.

The permitting portion of the business reportedly received a lot of smoke and water damage though the rest of the building is destroyed.

The 730 Truck Stop is named for the Highway 401 exit where it’s located – Exit 730 to Shanly Road (County Road 22) in Cardinal.
