BROCKVILLE – Provincial police have reopened the westbound lanes of Highway 401, west of the city, after collecting evidence in a criminal investigation.

Leeds County O.P.P. were at the scene between Stewart Boulevard and Long Beach Drive after two people were arrested in a tense situation during a traffic stop around 6:30 p.m.

Shots were reportedly fired during the pursuit and police had to use a spike belt and then box in the vehicle to stop the suspects from fleeing.

The two arrested were initially described as a male and female but police now say two males were arrested and criminal charges are pending.

The O.P.P. said the highway reopened around 11 p.m.

No other details have been released.
