KEMPTVILLE – An O.P.P. officer is nursing some injuries after being dragged several meters by a car trying to get away during a traffic stop.

A Honda Accord was stopped this morning at Clothier Street and Pinehill Road in Kemptville, Ont.

“The driver left the scene while the officer was holding onto the driver’s door. The officer was pulled for several meters and fell to the ground as the vehicle approached Rideau Street,” Const. Cathy Lindsay said.

A second cruiser tried to stop the fleeing vehicle as it was heading along County Road 43 and then on County Road 19 before the driver got away.

However, he later turned himself into authorities at the O.P.P. detachment.

Jordan Smith, 23, of North Grenville is facing 10 criminal charges including two counts of dangerous driving, two counts of fleeing a police officer and one count of driving without a seat belt.
