GANANOQUE – One of two all-terrain vehicle riders has been charged after leading police on a chase through town last weekend.

Gananoque police were patrolling Sunday (April 9, 2016) when they spotted two ATVs – a three-wheeler and a four-wheeler – driving on the sidewalk on Stone Street North (County Road 32).

When the officers tried to stop them, the duo took off, nearly hitting two pedestrians in the process.

At one point during the chase, police say one of their cruisers was hit by the three-wheeler.

The two got away but police later tracked down the rider of the three-wheeler and arrested a 28-year-old man from Gananoque.

He is facing charges of dangerous driving, flight from police and failing to stop at the scene of an accident, as well as “numerous” offences under the Off-Road Vehicles Act.

The other rider hasn’t been located.

Town police are hoping somebody may have witnessed the double-ATV chase and might have information to help them locate the other culprit.
