Educators talk Syrian refugee help in Kemptville

KEMPTVILLE – Teachers and support staff are meeting today (Monday, Feb. 22) to learn about how to help Syrian refugees coming to Canada.

The Upper Canada District School Board and the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario are holding the workshop at the North Grenville Municipal Center.

Superintendent Tim Mills said they want to give local educators the tools to help newcomers adjust to their new surroundings.

The workshop includes such topics as the acculturation process, second language acquisition and using a first language as a resource.
