Brockville driver recruits stand-in after crash

BROCKVILLE – Two men are facing charges after a driver had a relative pretend to be him, minutes after a traffic crash.

Police were called to an intersection in the north end around 8:30 p.m. Friday.

According to witnesses, the real driver had taken off and another man – a relative – was passing himself off as the driver.

Officers were able to find the driver – a 28-year-old local man – and charged him with failing to remain at the scene of an accident, failing to yield to traffic and driving while suspended.

The stand-in – a 51-year-old local man – was charged with obstructing police.

While there were no injuries associated with the crash, police said the younger man had hit himself in the face to make it look like he had been struck by the vehicle airbag.
