BROCKVILLE – It was an all-St. Lawrence College final at the Schooner Invitational Friday at the Memorial Center.

The Cornwall Sharks beat the host Schooners 3-1.

The Schooners struggled, playing a half dozen games in 24 hours, and fell behind early as Cornwall’s Jesse Fontaine lit the lap one minute into the game.

Brockville’s Kurtis Mainse scored at the seven minute mark in the second period, tying it up.

But then Christian Leger scored with three minutes left in the game and then Justin Rutley scored an empty-netter to seal the Sharks’ victory.

“This was a really important performance for our club,” said Sharks’ coaches Sean Boulerice and Mike Pettinella.

“I’m very proud of the boys and all their effort,” said Schooners assistant coach Chris Paul. “Handing Cornwall there first loss of the year was sweet but they won the war in the end.”

The Sharks are now 13-1-1 while the Schooners are 8-5-1.
