Search for suspect in Winchester bank robbery

WINCHESTER – SD&G O.P.P. are searching for a suspect in connection to a Friday morning bank robbery, which triggered a two-hour lockdown in the village’s downtown.

SD&G O.P.P. said the BMO Bank of Montreal at 510 Main Street West in Winchester was targeted this morning, shortly after it opened at 10 a.m.

Police said the suspect entered the bank and indicated he had a weapon, though tellers never saw one, before he demanded cash.

The suspect fled on foot in an easterly direction with an undisclosed sum of Canadian cash.

Nearby Winchester Public School was placed in a “hold and secure” as a precaution.

Police are looking for a man, roughly 5-foot-11, with a medium build and a dark complexion. He was wearing black pants, and a gray, white and black horizontal striped hoodie.

The hood was covering a red baseball cap and a black “neck wrap” was covering his face, said police.

Anyone with information is asking to call O.P.P. at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
