BROCKVILLE – A truck driver, following a GPS, got himself into trouble Monday night and caused a widespread hydro outage for hours in the city’s mid-town.

Brockville Police Det. Sgt. Tom Fournier said the trucker had mistakenly turned on Perth Street, trying to get to Strowger Boulevard.

Fournier said when the driver followed the GPS directions, he turned on Chislett Street where the trailer struck a hydro pole on the northwest corner of the intersection.

The driver, 23, from Brampton has been charged with having an insecure load and for disobeying a sign prohibiting trucks on the roadway.

Roughly 300 Hydro One customers were without power until 3 a.m.
